If you are an experienced parent, part of providing childcare support for your children is enriching discipline and fostering positive behaviors. We want to help our young ones develop into wonderful and kind human beings. Thus, we teach them the necessary skills to foster positive behaviors.
However, most parents experience temper tantrums from their children. Some parents consider the tantrums as disturbing and annoying. Sadly, most fail to realize that temper tantrums are normal and part of children’s development. As a preschool in Maryland, we are here to explain all about temper tantrums.
Contrary to common misconceptions about temper tantrums, they are a good thing! Temper tantrums are a result of sensory overload (frustration, hunger, disappointment, etc.) and other emotional responses. It means that your children can feel emotions but are unable to understand them because of their age. As a Montessori school in Rockville, Maryland, we remind parents not to be hard on their children who are displaying tantrums. Give them time to finish their tantrums and talk to them clearly and softly.
However, it should be a concern when temper tantrums grow more aggressive, age-inappropriate, and show no improvement. Thankfully, early childhood education can be beneficial to teach children how to navigate their emotions and learn ways to express them.
Again, temper tantrums are normal and should never be antagonized. Children are also humans- they have feelings. However, their brain development is not yet suited to help them understand heavy emotions. Parents should be there to help navigate emotions.
